Novel Summary

“When everyone scorned me because I was merely a woman, I kept convincing myself: ‘Actually, you can give it a try.’” – Fang Feng Sheng

There was a famous saying in officialdom: there is no yamen without Shaoxing.

She was the only descendant of the Fang family, the most prominent family of private advisors in Shaoxing.

A calamity broke the Fang family apart. Her father was implicated and put to death, and she cut her way through thistles and thorns to prove her name.

However, walking down this path, she discovered that there were things beyond her imagination.

~ ~

Zong Yue knows that he could marry Fang Feng Sheng because he had blocked all her paths of retreat. But it doesn’t matter—one day, the person will become his, and so will her heart.

  1. I held out to chapter 34 skipped to the last chapter and was grateful to drop the novel. The female character appears interesting. The reason I dropped the novel is that as of chapter 34 to much of the text was spent describing everything except the character’s story. The text goes into great detail about the family politics of her in-laws, later great detail about drama related to a murder, then the politics of small town to county level corruption and the ties to the court. So I skipped to the last chapter only to find out the writing never changed. The last chapter spent a paltry amount of text describing the interaction of the lead characters. Sadly the majority of the text is spent describing everything about their work life, and the political struggles. This is more a world building story. Almost like a study of what ancient life might have been like.

  2. Been waiting for this novel, thanks, MTL! Read almost all the books of the author, they are all interesting, never boring. Excited to read this book:)
